Switching is Easy
Powered by green renewable and with a reduced charging rate, Energia provides the best EV electricity plans for home charging which is the most convenient and cost-effective way of charging your electric vehicle.
No need to worry about switching, once you have purchased your new car, our switching team will call you to move your electricity account.
When your account is all set up, we will get in touch with you to arrange installation of your charger. Installation is a quick and easy process with minimal disruption.
How does the Free* EV Home Charger Offer work?
- Visit one of our participating car dealerships when you are ready to purchase your new EV. They will complete an application for the offer on your behalf.
- Once you have purchased your new EV, you should apply for your SEAI EV Home Charger Grant to avail of this offer (see details outlined below).
- One of our Energia customer agents will call you to register you for your new electricity plan.
- Once your new electricity plan is set up, our trusted installation partner, Circet, will call you within a few days to arrange a video survey of your site. Please note that video surveys are not always 100% accurate but are intended to reduce the requirement for an onsite survey. If you are unable to successfully complete the video survey, you may require an on-site survey at a cost of €130. Please see our FAQs below for details of what to expect during the video survey.
- Once your survey has been completed, Energia will send you a link to order your charger. *You will need to pay €300 upfront for your charger installation and if eligible, you will receive the €300 grant from the SEAI towards the cost of a standard charger installation. (See details of the SEAI EV Home Charger Grant below.) Additional charges may apply for non-standard installations. You can view our range of chargers in advance on our EV Chargers Information Page.
- Our installation team will then be in touch with you to arrange installation of your home charge point.
After installation, your engineer will support you in applying for your SEAI EV Home Charger Grant payment. You will need to submit the payment request form along with:
- A copy of the engineer’s Certificate number 3
- Test record sheet
- Invoice from the engineer
- Photo of the installed charger
SEAI processes payments within 4-6 weeks of receiving your complete application.
Important points to remember:
Apply for your SEAI EV Home Charger Grant:
Once you have purchased your new EV, you should apply for your SEAI EV Home Charger grant. A grant of up to €300 is provided to applicants who are owners of an eligible new or second-hand electric vehicle, towards the purchase and installation of a home charging unit. You can find out how to apply and more on the SEAI website.
Please do not proceed with any charger installation works before the start date on your SEAI Letter of Offer as you may not receive the full grant support available.
Please note that the grant process is handled entirely by the SEAI. Energia do not have visibility of grant applications so any queries need to be followed up directly with SEAI as we cannot handle these on your behalf.
Check your eligibility:
Ensure your property meets eligibility criteria to avail of this offer:
- Your property must have private off-street parking, so the charger cable does not obstruct public roads or footpaths

EV Charge point Installations FAQs
Energia have entered into a partnership with participating car brands, this partnership offers a free* standard installation of a home EV charge point. You will need to make payment of €300 to Energia which, if approved, you will receive back from the SEAI through the EV Home Charger Point grant.
Yes, customers will pay an upfront cost of €300 payment for standard EV charge point installations before the appointment can be offered, which, if approved, will receive back from the SEAI through the EV Home Charger Point grant. Do not order your charge point until you have received a payment link from Energia.
Please complete the application form on the SEAI website straight away. You will be issued with a Letter of Offer if approved which you must have before the installation takes place. If approved, you can apply for payment of the grant once your installation has been completed. If you have any queries regarding the grant please send these directly to the SEAI.
Your installation date will vary depending on if there is a requirement for any additional works before your installation can take place. However, we aim to provide standard installation within 7 weeks of signing up for the offer, and you will be supported and guided through this process every step of the way.
Yes, on the day of your installation the installer will need to turn off your electricity for approximately 45 minutes. The installer will discuss this with you on your calls leading up to your installation and on the day of your installation.
Your EV charger installation will be booked as an “all day appointment” this means that it can range anywhere from 3-5 hours depending on the specific set up at your home.
With our trusted installation partner Circet, we require a video survey to assess your property before your installation can be arranged.
Please be advised that video surveys are not always 100% accurate and they are intended to reduce the requirement of an onsite survey. If you are unable to complete the video survey your home will require an on-site survey which we offer for €130.
Our installation partner Circet will contact you after your electricity plan with Energia has been set up successfully and guide you through this and the next steps. You will need to have the following to complete the video survey:
- Location of Charge Point: Know where the charge point will be installed
- Distance from Fuseboard: Measure the distance from the fuseboard to the installation location. If cable runs more than 15 metres, an on-site survey may be required
- Earth Inspection Box: Ensure the earth inspection box is located and visible
- ESB Meter Cabinet Key: Have the key available so the video surveyor can inspect inside the meter cabinet
- Fuseboard Accessibility: Ensure the fuseboard is accessible for viewing during the survey.
You may need to purchase an onsite survey at a cost of €130 if your video survey is unsuccessful. This will be confirmed after your video survey by our installation partner Circet.
Some homes are not suitable for EV charge point installation without wiring upgrades. This is in line with the safe electric Ireland standards.
If your property requires these works, you will be made aware of the works required and the cost before any work is carried out.
Yes, we can install your charger if your home has external insulation. However you will need to check your warranty details as installing the EV charger may invalidate some external insulation warranties.
Please be advised that Energia will not be liable for invalidating these warranties, it is your responsibility to ensure that you can have the EV charger installed at your property.
Customers can arrange to have a free-standing post installed, on which we can arrange for your EV charger to be installed on. Please note that Energia do not provide free-standing posts. You will need to complete the purchase and installation of the post before arranging your EV charger appointment. You will need to seek advice from your local planning authority before considering a free-standing post.
A standard EV charge point installation is one that can be carried out at your property without any additional site preparation works, additional man hours or additional equipment required to install the charger. It also requires the installation from consumer unit (fuse board) to the exterior proposed position of the charge point to be no more than 15 metres.
