Free EV Home Charger - SEAI Grant Eligibility
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) Home Charger Grant is a government-backed scheme designed to help homeowners install smart EV chargers at their properties. Launched in 2018, a grant of up to €300 is provided to applicants who are owners of an eligible new or second-hand electric vehicle, towards the purchase and installation of a home charging unit.
Regardless of if you’re a homeowner, an EV owner, or even a landlord, this grant makes home charging more affordable.
Ensure that you check your eligibility herefor the SEAI grant towards the purchase and installation of your home charger before installation.
*You will need to pay €300 upfront for your charger installation and if eligible, you will receive the €300 grant from the SEAI towards the cost of a standard charger installation. Additional charges may apply for non-standard installations.
Please do not proceed with any charger installation works before the start date on your SEAI Letter of Offer as you may not receive the full grant support available.
Please note that the grant process is handled entirely by the SEAI. Energia do not have visibility of grant applications so any queries need to be followed up directly with SEAI as we cannot handle these on your behalf.
EV Home Charger Grant Process
The grant is open to homeowners in Ireland, even if they don’t currently own an electric vehicle. This allows landlords and those planning on buying an electric vehicle in the future to avail of the scheme of a free home charger for electric car.
Eligibility criteria:
You should have a private off-street parking space where the charger can be installed.
You require your MPRN number that will confirm the location of your home.
Apply before installing the charger (work done before approval won’t be covered).
Have not previously received a home charger grant for the same property.
Validity of grant is for 6 months from date of approval, if the work is not completed within that. timeframe, you will not be eligible to claim the grant.
How to apply for the SEAI home charger grant:
Gather your information - you will need your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) from your electricity bill and your home’s eircode.
Apply online - Visit the SEAI website and complete the EV Home Charger Grant application form.
Receive your approval - If your application is successful, SEAI will email you a Letter of Offer and a payment request form.
Install your charger - Choose a registered electrician to install the SEAI- approved smart charger.
Submitting your claim
After installation, submit the payment request form along with:
A copy of the electrician’s Certificate number 3
Test record sheet
Invoice from the electrician
Photo of the installed charger
SEAI processes payments within 4-6 weeks of receiving your complete application.
